MIXTURE OF RAW MATERIALS USED IN PRODUCTS OF PRECIOUS METALS

Most precious metals are too soft to be used in their pure stage in jewellery and other utility articles. Therefore they must be combined with mixture of raw materials which add durability and shape to the alloy in its different stage of product designing.

Gold The alloy of 18 carat gold consists of 750/1000 pure gold and 250/1000 mixture of materials in which there are 1/3 silver and 2/3 copper. The color of 18 carat white gold comes from palladium. The alloy consists of 2/3 palladium and the rest is silver. There are 585/1000 pure gold and 415/1000 raw materials in the alloy of 14 carat gold. 14 carat white gold is also used in jewellery making.

Platinum Jewellery made of platinum consist of 950/1000 pure platinum and 50/1000 copper. Besides white gold platinum is an excellent setting for diamonds because of its durability.

Silver

Copper is used in a mixture of raw materials in silver. The proportions
in the alloy are 830/1000 silver and 925/1000 sterling silver.

Alpaca The mixture of alpaca consists of 62-64% copper, 20-24% zinc and 12-18% nickel. The surface of alpaca item is plated with a strong layer of silver.

Pewter Pewter items are manufactured of the alloy, which consist of 925/1000 pewter and the mixture of raw materials are copper and antimony.

Bronze The name of bronze is used of many different mixtures of copper.
